Scouts and Dads:
Please consider taking this course on June 3 & 4 if you are going on a high adventure trip this year or next year since it is good for two years. So if you are going to Tres Ritos this year, you should take this class in anticipation of needing it next year. This is important training not just for high adventure, it may also allow you to save someone in any situation where medical help cannot be reached quickly. Even inside the city!
If you don't have CPR already, you can take it afterward to complete the certification.
I currently have three people signed up for this great opportunity, but I think more people are interested in taking it. I will give Jason the list of names on Saturday, May 15 so that he can get the books ordered.
WHO: Any registered Scouter (adult) or Boy Scout. First come first served, however, priority is based on 2017 & 2018 trips. Up to 20 students.
WHAT: Wilderness First Aid (WFA) Training and Certification
WHERE:McCalister Scout Lodge
WHEN: June 3 and 4, 2017, from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm each day (16 hrs total). (Time may vary on Saturday, Jason's daughter has a swim meet and the class will be 8 hours with a later start. Will notify you of the start time later)
WHY: It is required to have at least 2 members of each crew (7 - 12 members) be certified in Wilderness First Aid (WFA). Any youth (14 yrs + ) or adult crew members may fulfill this requirement. This is also required to be covered by the BSA insurance.
PREREQUISITE: CPR - You have to show proof of Red Cross CPR taken within the past two years or plan on taking it afterward to complete your certification.
ADDITIONAL INFO: Cost: $40 (These classes normally cost a lot more - Alamo Area council charges $140 but Jason teaches this to help the troop). We will have brown-bag (bring your own) lunch both days, and eat through lecture/class. Cost includes the Wilderness First Aid Field Guide and the certification card, plus non-reuseable training materials.
REGISTER: Please register by May 15, 2017. Register by sending an e-mail to Alan Gustin at: firstname.lastname@example.org Please note: The instructor will be purchasing materials based on your registration. If you register, you will be expected to pay the $40 fee whether you are able to come or not (you will be given the book).
If we have a significant number of people that want/need to take this course, but do not have CPR certification, I may try to arrange training prior to this class, so let me know if you are in that situation.
